The end of the year is usually a time of celebration with family and friends. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has changed many of our plans for this holiday season, I hope we can still cherish what we have and have faith easier days are ahead. We have made many sacrifices this year, but we also have much to look forward to, including the opportunity to connect with each other during the 2021 Winter Symposium in just a few short weeks. The meeting will offer not only innovative and engaging digital sessions, but also plenty of opportunities for members to exchange ideas and catch up.

This month the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network announced the 2020 numbers on organ donation from deceased donors in the United States, which set an all-time record for the tenth year in a row.
Transplant surgeons welcome the exciting news that the immunosuppressant drug coverage bill was signed into law this week. ASTS was very proud to see that Congress included the text of the House-passed Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act (Immuno Bill) – H.R. 5534 – as part of the last COVID relief package in 2020 and it is now the law of the land.
