Robert Montgomery, MD, PhD, FACS Honored with the ACS Jacobson Innovation Award

ASTS Councilor Dr. Robert Montgomery, MD, PhD, FACS has been awarded the prestigious American College of Surgeons (ACS) Jacobson Innovation Award for his groundbreaking contributions to the field of transplantation. Notably, leading the world’s first successful pig-to-human kidney xenotransplant.

montgomeryDr. Montgomery’s career is characterized by innovation. During his time at Johns Hopkins, he led a remarkable four-hospital, 16-person “domino kidney transplant” procedure, in which eight living donors gave a kidney to strangers, setting a new standard in collaborative transplantation. Dr. Montgomery is also widely acclaimed for his role in developing the laparoscopic procedure for living kidney donation, which has since become the global standard. His contributions to the field have not only advanced transplant surgery but has also significantly improved patient care and outcomes.

We couldn’t think of a more deserving recipient for this award.
