Government and Scientific Liaisons

Mission Statement

The committee is charged with providing representation to various government and scientific organizations that influence the practice and science of transplantation.  The committee provides representation on the UNOS Board of Directors and reports to the Council regarding any new initiatives or policy decisions.  Additionally, the committee provides a representative to both the American Board of Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.  The Government and Scientific Liaison Committee also provides a representative to the National Association of Medical Examiners.  As part of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) also seeks input from the committee concerning transplant related issues.  The goal of the committee is to provide expert opinions and advice to these organizations that will shape the future of the field of transplantation.
