This multi-specialty society consensus conference will focus on developing standard HPB training requirements which would be required regardless of type of fellowship completed. These common training requirements will be developed with a patient-centered focus, intended to produce safe competent HPB surgeons.
The conference will follow defined protocols for a consensus conference. A series of questions will be posed with a debate between the pro and con sides. There will be an independent panel that will consider both arguments and develop a statement from each component debate. There will be a summary statement developed regarding deliberations of the consensus conference. The findings will be published in a major surgical journal.
