With support from an array of organizations, including ASTS, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine assembled an expert panel to examine the ethical, legal, regulatory, policy, and organizational issues related to U.S research involving deceased organ donors. The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) has developed a set of goals and recommendations to guide work on organ donor intervention research that can help enhance the quality and increase the quantity of organs that can be recovered from donors and transplanted. ASTS thanks Peter L. Abt, MD, for representing ASTS in this effort.

NAS recently released an infographic about opportunities for donor intervention research, building on the report released in late 2017. Recommendations from the study can be found here.
