Dr. Watkins attended medical school at the University of Tennessee before completing post-doctoral training in New York, where he later worked as an assistant professor of surgery at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine

1. Who was your earliest professional influence?

My earliest professional influence was my grandfather who is now a retired cardiothoracic surgeon. While I didn’t meet him until I was a junior in college, I first saw him featured in Jet magazine at the age of 9 and was determined to follow in his footsteps.

2. What are you most proud of personally and professionally?

As a proud father, my personal joy comes from watching my two boys, Ayden 14, and Khalil 21, grow and become young men. Professionally, I really value the ability to make a transformative impact on patient’s lives daily.

3. What is your favorite pastime or hobby?

I am an avid music lover and have curated playlist for every genre of music - except country.

4. If not transplant, what?

I would have been a professional dancer if not a career in medicine. The moonwalk had already been taken.

5. What was the best piece of advice you have received?

Always keep GOD first

6. What is your favorite drink?

Iced Brown Sugar Oat milk Shaken Espresso

7. What's your favorite movie?

Movie and book - Malcolm X
