Before you begin your Fellowship Training Program

It is mandatory that all fellows in accredited fellowship slots become CANDIDATE members. Candidate membership is complimentary for fellows and includes online access to the American Journal of Transplantation (AJT). Fellows should apply at least 3 months prior to beginning their fellowship.

 


Current Fellows

As a fellow in an accredited Abdominal Fellowship Training Program, there are requirements in order to receive a certificate of completion:

  1. Review the Fellow Requirements before you begin training. 
  2. Familiarize yourself with the requirements for both the Institution and  the Fellow concerning Accreditation of Abdominal Transplant Surgery Fellowship Programs. To learn more about Accreditation Requirements.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the Fellowship Managed Time Policy
  4. Maintain a Surgical Log. All fellows are required to use the online surgical logs available within the Academic Universe.
  5. All new, incoming fellows are required to actively engage in the National Transplant Surgery Curriculum. Each fellow is required to complete all modules. Failure to complete the modules will result in a denial of a certificate of completion.
  6. When you complete the fellowship, download and complete the Fellowship Completion Form and return it to the ASTS National Office.This form must be completed by all fellows and signed by the Program Director in order to receive a Certificate of Completion from an ASTS accredited fellowship. Please email the completed form to chelsey.gordon@asts.org. Certificates of completion are reviewed on a monthly basis. You should allow 6 - 8 weeks for processing.  Note: fellows are responsible for requesting their certificate of completion at the end of their fellowship.

Knowledge Assessment - Pathway to Certificate of Completion

As of 2018, all fellows in accredited Fellowship Training Programs are required to take the annual Knowledge Assessment during their first and second year of fellowship training. In order to receive a certificate of completion from the TACC, fellows must complete all fellow requirements and achieve a satisfactory score on the Knowledge Assessment. The Spring 2019 Knowledge Assessment will take place on Friday, April 5, 2019 and Saturday, April 13, 2019. All first and second year ASTS Fellows will be required to take the exam. Registration for the exam dates will open in early 2019. Fellows must attend either exam date they have registered for.

  • The Knowledge Assessment will be offered in April of each year for first and second year fellows. 
  • The assessment will be administered using a secure online exam platform and will be proctored by the Fellowship Training Program Director. 
  • The assessment will consist of 120 questions which fellows will have 2.6 hours to complete. 
  • Should fellows not receive the minimum required score, a remediation option is available.
The assessment will cover the following units from the National Transplant Curriculum:
  • Economics and Ethics
  • HB/HPB
  • Intestine
  • Kidney Transplantation
  • Liver Transplantation
  • Medical Complications
  • Multi-Organ Transplant
  • Organ Procurement
  • Pancreas Transplantation
  • Pharmacology and Immunosuppresion
  • Transplant Immunology

Certificate of Completion Replacement

If you trained at an ASTS Fellowship Training Program and were awarded a certificate of completion that you would like to have replaced, please download and complete the Certificate of Completion Replacement Form and email the form to chelsey.gordon@asts.org. Please note, there is a fee to replace the certificate.
