The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) is a tertiary referral hospital located in Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia. Established in 1970 on land donated by King Faisal and officially opened in 1975 by King Khalid, the hospital has grown to become a leading medical and research institution. Initially managed by the Hospital Corporation of America from 1973 to 1985, it transitioned to national administration following a Royal Decree. KFSH&RC boasts over 1,000 beds and employs more than 10,000 staff, offering primary and highly specialized inpatient and outpatient medical care. It participates in numerous clinical and research studies, further improving healthcare standards through innovative practices. The hospital has been ranked 79th globally in medical care. Notable developments include the opening of the King Fahd National Centre for Children's Cancer in 1997, expansion with a Jeddah branch in 2000, becoming a corporation in 2002, and the establishment of the King Abdullah Centre for Cancer and Liver Diseases in 2018, where the Organ Transplant Center of Excellence is housed.
The Organ Transplant Center of Excellence (OTCoE), under the leadership of Prof. Dieter C. Broering, Executive Director, is a leading facility renowned for its advanced transplant procedures. This center is staffed by 645 dedicated members, including 113 highly specialized doctors, and is equipped with cutting-edge technologies for performing a wide range of minimally invasive solid organ transplants. Since 2011, the center has achieved remarkable milestones, including 2,578 liver transplants and 3,720 kidney transplants. It has also been at the forefront of robotic surgery in transplantation, completing 1,320 fully robotic donor hepatectomies and 64 robotic recipient liver transplants, showing its commitment to pioneering medical innovations and improving patient outcomes. The center's robust team and state-of-the-art facilities contribute to its status as a leader in organ transplantation, both regionally and globally.
