Mr. Hender Rojas was born in Colombia, South America.  He worked as a paramedic for the Los Angeles City Fire Department for 6 years. He then went on to obtain his Bachelor’s of Nursing from  Worcester State College, in Worcester, Massachusetts. He then received his Master’s of Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Graduate School of Nursing, with an Acute Care Practice emphasis in Cardiology.

In 2008, Mr. Rojas joined the University of Kentucky Transplant Center. He has worked in the outpatient and inpatient service, being involved in every face of liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant care. Mr. Rojas has been a liaison between transplant surgery and hepatology, critical care and internal medicine teams.

Mr. Rojas has served as a sub investigator in several clinical trials and was critical in the development of the smoking cessation and weight loss programs for the Transplant Center. He has also served as a mentor to several nurse practitioner and physician assistant students throughout his time at the University Kentucky. A couple of them even joined the transplant team inspired by his teaching during their clinical rotations.

Mr. Rojas is married to his wife Joanne, who just received a doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Kentucky. They have 3 children: Miranda, 17 years old, a junior in high school and a violinist; Sebastian, 15 years old, a sophomore in high school and an ultimate frisbee player; and Veronica, 13 years old, an 8th grader, and a dancer who loves ballet.

Mr. Rojas is a soccer fanatic; he loves to volunteer at his church and coordinates a local food pantry for the underprivileged, among other community service projects.
