The 2019 Program Directors Meeting took place on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at the Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel. Fifty-seven out of sixty-five Fellowship Training Programs were represented at the meeting. Participants included Program Directors, fellowship coordinators, and administrators. The Fellowship Training Committee Chairs, Dr. Andre Dick and Dr. Tayyab Diwan, gave an update on the educational initiatives the committee is focusing on to by provide more opportunities to fellows and programs. The Transplant Accreditation & Certification Council (TACC) Chairs, Dr. Douglas Farmer and Dr. Wendy Grant, led a discussion about the certification pathway and received great feedback from programs as the pathway continues to be developed.
Dr. Tanjala Purnell from the ASTS Diversity Issues Committee presented on the pathway to cultural dexterity and the impact of the transplant surgery workforce pipeline. The fellowship training programs also provided feedback on how they felt the new match process had gone since this was the first year ASTS worked with SF Match for the annual surgical fellows match.
