ASTS Francis Moore Excellence in Mentorship in the Field of Transplantation Surgery Award

Regular or Candidate Members of the ASTS, within 7 years of fellowship may nominate one mentor annually for this award.

  • The nominator must write a maximum 500-word description of the mentor’s contributions to his/her training and career.
  • The nominator must also provide a current CV for the nominated mentor.
  • No mentor can receive the award more than once every 5 years.

ASTS Rising Stars in Transplantation Surgery

Nomination is open to Lecturers, Assistant Professors, and Associate Professors on the tenure or non-tenure tracks, can have an MD and/or PhD, and is 6-15 years post fellowship.

  • No self-nominations are accepted.
  • Nominees should be ASTS members.
  • Two nominations per individual must be received to be eligible.

ASTS Vanguard Prize

ASTS Regular or Candidate Members who are Clinical Instructors or Assistant Professor surgical faculty members at a UNOS approved (or Canadian equivalent) transplant center, within 5 years of appointment, are eligible.

ASTS Advanced Transplant Provider Award

ASTS Associate Members who are Advanced Practice Providers, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Transplant Coordinators, and/or those with equivalent degrees such as Masters or Doctorate, PhD, PharmD, and other specialties and who have not been the ASTS Advanced Transplant Provider award recipient within the last five years are eligible.

Sherilyn Gordon Memorial Travel Award

Three awards are available annually (1 recipient per category), contingent upon the receipt of qualified applications.

Individuals interested in applying must provide a brief summary of their current practice, why they want to attend the Winter Symposium, and how the award will assist in fulfilling their professional development. Applicants must also submit a letter of support from an ASTS member.

1. Medical Students

  • One award will be given annually to a medical student who has an interest in transplant surgery and an established relationship with an ASTS member.

  • ASTS membership is not required but is encouraged. Medical Students can apply for membership in the Trainee Category and receive member benefits throughout the year. Annual dues are $25.

2. Residents

  • One award will be given annually to a general surgery, osteopathic, or urology resident who has an interest in transplant surgery and/or is planning to participate in a transplant fellowship. The resident must have an established relationship with an ASTS member.

  • ASTS membership is required. If not already members, residents can apply for membership in the Trainee Category and receive member benefits throughout the year. Annual dues are $25.

3. Advanced Transplant Provider

  • An Advanced Transplant Provider is defined as a professional who practices in the field of transplant surgery as a Nurse Practioner or Physician Assistant. One award will be given annually.

  • ASTS membership is required. If not already members, individuals can apply for membership in the Associate Category and receive member benefits throughout the year. Annual dues are $125. ASTS also offers dual membership for NATCO members. Applicants can inquire for more details at asts@asts.org.
