ASTS Annual Inaugural Surgical Fellows Symposium

November 7-11, 2007
Maui, Hawaii

The inaugural program was a success! Thank you to Drs. John Magee and Peter Stock and the entire ASTS Fellowship Training Committee for their dedication and support. Thank you to the 22 faculty members that dedicated their time to  ensure that surgical fellows received training paramount to becoming highly trained and skilled transplant surgeons.

“The best, most concise and most clinically appropriate lecture series since medical school; every fellow needs to attend this series and it should be a mandatory part of every transplant fellowship educational program.”Seth C. Narins, MD, PhD, Fellow, New York Presbyterian Hospital

The faculty focused their presentations on core topics such as transplant immunology, immunosuppression, candidate pre-evaluation, organ allocation, organ offers, long-term patient management, ethics and how to secure your first job. The Symposium also provided an opportunity for fellows to network and discuss differences in training programs. Fellows appreciated the unparalleled access to the faculty experts and ASTS leadership that helped promote discussion, enhance case studies, offer empirical knowledge and provide mentorship opportunities.

“I think it's important that ASTS has taken on this Symposium. It brings front and center our mission of fellows' education.” – Nancy L. Ascher, MD, PhD, Program Faculty, University of California San Francisco

The ASTS Annual Surgical Fellows Symposium is open to all 2nd year Fellows in good standing in ASTS accredited Abdominal Fellowship Training Programs. More testimony about the symposium can be found in the next issue of the Chimera, the ASTS Newsletter.
