2017 Winter Symposium Abstracts Open

2017 Call for Abstracts Information

As more patients suffer due to the shortage of life-saving donor organs each year, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) is focusing its Winter Symposium on innovative science and effective public policy to combat this crisis. Join us in Miami in January 2017 to learn what is being done to save lives through expanding organ transplantation—and how you can help.

Notification

All persons who submitted abstracts will be notified by mid-November whether their abstract has been selected for oral or poster. All abstract presenters must register for and attend the ASTS 17th Annual Winter Symposium. All trainee presenters of accepted abstracts including poster, oral, and mini-oral presentations will receive complimentary all-access registration to attend the Winter Symposium.

Submission and Review Process

Submissions are now closed. All abstracts are blinded for peer review and ranked on the basis of scientific merit, and the goal is to perform a scientifically rigorous review process to select those abstracts that present strong, balanced, and evidence-based clinical content, without the perception of bias.

The submission of abstracts related to clinical or basic research, surgical technique, or surgical practice that is new, innovative, or visionary is encouraged. Abstracts that address basic but controversial aspects of surgical management are also encouraged. Select abstracts will be accepted for oral, mini-oral, or poster presentations.

ATP Abstract Submissions

This year, we have created a new submissions category specifically for all Advanced Transplant Providers! All ATP abstracts are blinded for review by select members of the ATP committee. The top scoring abstracts will be included in the Poster Session at the Winter Symposium and will be eligible to receive a Top Poster of Distinction award. This unique category will follow the same abstract submission guidelines as all other categories.

Oral and Mini-Oral Abstract Submissions

The Top Abstracts will be selected to present at the Mini-Oral Abstract Session or Oral Abstract Sessions I and II during the Winter Symposium.

Video Abstract Submissions

ASTS is also accepting surgical video submissions for the annual surgical video presentation at the 2017 Winter Symposium. Videos that present innovative, unique, and scientifically-rich surgical content are encouraged. Video abstracts can be with or without narration, and can be no longer than 10 minutes in length. Submissions will be reviewed and selected on the basis of scientific merit and relevance.
